New York City is always a whirlwind of energy, and our recent trip was no exception. We navigated the city's bustling streets, starting with wholesale buying shows, discovering hidden gems in home boutiques, and culminating in soaking in the artistic wonders of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. We also took time to stroll through the urban oasis of the High Line, where the city’s vibrant life meets serene garden paths. Join us for a recap of some of the highlights of our trip.
The trip commenced with visits to several prominent wholesale shows. Surrounded by innovative designs, emerging trends, and reimagined classics, we carefully curated selections that align with fleurdetroit’s aesthetic.
The fast-paced environment challenged us to make quick yet thoughtful decisions, balancing our creative instincts with the practical needs of the shoppe. Every conversation with vendors and designers added another layer of insight, helping us refine our vision for the upcoming season. By the end of the day, our minds were buzzing with ideas, and our suitcases were brimming with samples and catalogues that promise to bring a mix of new styles and old favorites into the shoppe.
We also dedicated time to discovering New York City’s eclectic home décor boutiques, beginning in SoHo. Known for its artistic flair, this neighborhood is home to numerous unique shops that offer a broad spectrum of design aesthetics.
We visited several boutiques that featured everything from vintage homeware to sleek modern designs. Each store’s carefully curated selection provided abundant inspiration for visual merchandising and innovative displays.
We walked everywhere we could through the city—rain or shine! You never know where the next great idea will spring from. While walking, we took note of color palettes and textures, the play of light and shadow, and the way natural elements interacted with urban structures, all giving us inspiration for our next projects.
Walking the High Line in New York City feels like stepping into a world where nature and urban life seamlessly coexist. As we strolled along this elevated park, the hustle and bustle of the city faded into the background, replaced by the soft rustle of leaves and the distant hum of traffic below. We paused often to take in the stunning views, the striking contrast of modern skyscrapers against the blue sky, and the brilliant combination of perennials that lined the path. The walk was not just a break from our busy schedule but also a reminder of the city’s ability to reinvent itself, turning old rail tracks into a serene escape where creativity and nature thrive.
No trip to New York is complete without indulging in its diverse culinary scene. Throughout our stay, we dined at fun and interesting restaurants that reflected the city’s eclectic spirit. From a cozy Italian trattoria to a trendy rooftop bar, each dining experience was distinctively memorable. One of our favorites was a garden-themed café fully encompassed in plants, where we enjoyed botanic-inspired cocktails and fresh tacos surrounded by lush greenery and floral arrangements.
Visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art was a highlight of our New York City trip. We immersed ourselves in the timeless beauty of its collections, from the Tiffany & Co. silver exhibition to the Afrofuturist Period Room to the Arts & Crafts pottery. The Met offered us not just a glimpse into history but also a deep well of inspiration that we carried with us long after we left its grand halls.
As our 4-day trip to New York City ended, we found ourselves reflecting on the perfect blend of inspiration, creativity, and connection that defined our journey. From the bustling energy of the wholesale shows to the serene beauty of the High Line, every moment enriched our perspective and fueled our passion for our work. The Metropolitan Museum of Art reminded us of the timeless value of artistry, while the city itself, with its vibrant neighborhoods and eclectic charm, offered endless ideas to bring back to fleurdetroit. Leaving the city, we felt recharged and ready to infuse our newfound insights into everything we do, excited to see how this trip will shape the next chapter of our creative endeavors.
