Young love, new growth, spring greens, birdsong, and early bulbs overwhelm the senses as we emerge from our winter slumber. Each day, with every new breath, opens paths to fresh journeys and happy discoveries. Embracing the newness of spring is something every gardener does with zeal. Walking my property, I’m amazed to see the same families of birds setting out with the same fervor as past generations—love to be found and nests to be built.
The multi-generational crow clan has been with me for the past ten years. Their cacophony of caws and whooshing wings sets the tempo on these early April days. Uncle, Brother, Granny, Aunt, Great Gramps, and the raucous cousins glide and swoop about my canopies, without hesitation or fear of being seen, letting me know they’re back for another season. The Downies and wrens flit and dodge, and the chickadees, unfazed by almost everything, flock in swarms before pairing off. April officially resuscitates all of nature, and the human beasts at fleurdetroit are no exception.
Our hive of activity is in full gear as we welcome one of our favorite months on the calendar. Preparations for new projects and the buzz of the warehouse receiving new product for the season keep us as busy as the flocks of industrious birds and fowl on my property.
Welcome back, Lady April! Let’s celebrate the little things together and remember the magic of a new spring day. See you in the shop, and perhaps more importantly, be kind to yourself!
