Style Social: Dopamine Decor

This June, we welcomed guests to the second installment of our collaborative design series, Style Social, with an evening dedicated to Dopamine Décor. Held in the courtyards of fleurdetroit, the event celebrated joyful living through thoughtful design, meaningful conversation, and unforgettable hospitality.

Our featured speaker was the incredibly talented Rachel Nelson, CEO and Principal Designer of Concetti. A third-generation Detroit business owner and Crain's Detroit Business 40 Under 40 honoree, Rachel leads an interior design strategy and branding studio specializing in thoughtfully curated residential and commercial environments. Her presentation invited guests to rethink what makes a space truly feel like home.

All About Dopamine

Every detail of the evening was designed around the concept of dopamine—the feeling of joy sparked by beautiful, meaningful experiences. From the event design and décor to the menu and conversation, we embraced lighthearted, summery elements that felt vibrant, welcoming, and anything but stuffy.

Fresh fruits tucked into our floral centerpieces added a playful, whimsical touch, while bold, citrus-inspired linens transformed our courtyard tables into colorful gathering spaces. Layers of texture, pattern, and color created an atmosphere that encouraged guests to slow down, connect, and simply enjoy.

Permission to Be You

Rachel's presentation centered on a simple but powerful idea: design your home for you. She encouraged guests to embrace the colors, collections, memories, and objects that genuinely bring them happiness rather than decorating to fit trends or expectations.

Rachel invited the audience to reflect on childhood memories, meaningful travels, and moments that left a lasting impression. Those experiences, she explained, often reveal our own unique version of dopamine. What brings one person joy may look entirely different for another—and that's exactly the point.

"Dopamine Decor: The practice of designing a space around what makes you feel good. Bold color, personal objects, things that carry meaning, chosen not because they match, but because they make you happy every time you walk into the room."

Culinary Joy

The evening wouldn't have been complete without food that felt just as joyful as the design.

Our friends from That Guy From Italy delighted guests with authentic wood-fired pizzas, handcrafted using artisanal ingredients sourced directly from Italy. The aroma of fresh dough baking in the outdoor stone oven, paired with hand-tossed pizzas, created an experience that drew everyone together.

For dessert, guests enjoyed freshly churned strawberry or pistachio gelato.

At the bar, summer-inspired chilled rosé and Sauvignon Blanc were served alongside seasonal non-alcoholic spritzes from Saint Spritz, offering refreshing Italian-inspired flavors for every guest.

A Thoughtful Parting Gift

As a thank-you for spending a summer evening with us, each guest that made a purchase of $125 or more received a curated gift collection inspired by the five senses—playful treasures chosen to continue the feeling of dopamine long after the event ended.

Each collection included:

  • MAEVE Chocolate Truffle Bar
  • Sow the Magic Tarot Seed Packet
  • Maison Matine Personal Fragrance
  • Art Colour Design Leather Mushroom Bookmark

These are brands we're proud to carry, each reflecting our appreciation for thoughtful craftsmanship, beautiful design, and products that spark everyday joy.

Guests also took home one of our signature "cupholder" floral arrangements, handcrafted by our floral designers using seasonal artisanal blooms. A little floral accent the perfect car cupholder size.

Until Next Time

We're incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us for such an inspiring evening celebrating creativity, community, and the joy of thoughtful design.

Our Style Social series continues on July 9 with Style Social: The Dinner Party—an immersive evening where guests will create a beautifully layered tablescape alongside our event designer, Laura Daluga and Colin Whitfield. Together we'll explore everything that transforms a meal into a memorable experience, from linens and tableware to floral design, décor, and styling.

Once the table is complete, you'll take your seat as dinner guests and enjoy a seasonal three-course meal paired with cocktails and wine by Chef Toni Sova of Nostimo Kitchen.

Tickets are available now, and we look forward to welcoming you for another unforgettable evening.
