Inspired by the 2025 Pantone Color of the Year: Mocha Mousse

This year’s Color of the Year is PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse, a warm, rich brown shade. Pantone describes it as “a warming brown hue imbued with richness, evoking the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, and fulfilling our desire for comfort.”

Brown’s rise in popularity last year was undeniable. It often replaced classic black and broke old design rules, such as the once-unthinkable pairing of black and brown. As a result, brown has become a beloved neutral.

As designers, we often work with color spectrums, using hues that complement a signature color to create a cohesive look. Mocha Mousse, with its naturally warm undertones, pairs beautifully with other warm colors like pinks, oranges, and ambers.

To celebrate this year’s Color of the Year, we’ve crafted a tablescape inspired by Mocha Mousse. The result is a warm and inviting setting that showcases this versatile shade in all its glory.

Find Balance

To achieve optimal design balance, we focus on balancing color, texture, and placement. In doing so, our presentation results in a warm and harmonious atmosphere.

In our design, we anchor the look with a brown plaid linen. This rich chocolate-brown linen helps to stabilize the overall aesthetic and easily allows the introduction of shades of amber, peach, and touches of blue.

Texture is a key focus in our design. To elevate the look, we incorporate a variety of textures—plaid, stripes, glass, shiny porcelain, and whimsical florals. The layers and variations of texture add depth and interest to the composition.

Design with Elevated Pieces

To create a refined look, choose substantial design elements. A Gommaire votive candle exudes pure sophistication. The handmade, translucent, tinted brown glass is a stunning design element on its own and becomes even more refined when paired with other fabulous pieces. Although not specifically the color mocha, Richard Ginori Oriente Italiano bowls in the color Cipria bring sophistication and charm to our table. Striped linen napkins offset the delicate design of the plates. Floral arrangements of mixed garden beauties add height, interest, and overall charm. Consider pairing some of your most interesting pieces together to create a warm and harmonious tablescape. Thoughtfully curated combinations will result in an inviting and polished aesthetic.

Experiment with Different Combinations

Design is rarely a linear process—it’s often about experimentation to achieve the perfect look. For example, we styled our quirky pomegranate vase both with and without flowers before deciding on full, lush arrangements. We also tested various floral combinations at different heights and swapped out napkins until we found the ideal match.

The beauty of design lies in its flexibility—it’s a process of trial and discovery. While sticking to a core concept ensures a cohesive result, don’t be afraid to have fun and explore along the way. Let this season inspire you, whether through a specific color palette or a particular mood, and create something truly magical.
