March Comes in Like a Lion

I was fortunate to have grown up in a very loving family that encouraged imagination, and a work ethic, in my brother and me. When I was in Kindergarten, I recall my mother telling us on March 1st, prior to leaving for school, ‘You know March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb!’ This adage—as old as time for Midwesterners—was lost on my young brother and me, leaving us puzzled and leaning heavily on our rich imaginations. In my mind we were in for a fierce lion encounter somewhere between home and the school yard, and I was determined that we were not going to be eaten.

So here we are faced with the lion of early March, and anxiously awaiting our lamb that ushers in spring. The sun is rising earlier, and the sunlight seems brighter. The buzz of a society eager to gather is getting louder and is busting out for normalcy.

Cheers to a safe and healthy March. We hope you enjoy this month’s Journal and take time to bring a little spring indoors in advance of the May flowers to come. See you in the shoppe!
