Spring always invites us to simplify and let a few elements speak clearly, without distraction. In this arrangement, we’re centering the design around a duo of our most beloved early spring blooms—both of which I have the pleasure of growing in my cutting garden at home.
We chose a generously rounded clear glass bowl (about the size and shape of an 80lb wheel of parmesan) because we love how it amplifies the sense of openness while giving the stems room to move.
Structure and tension build with the addition of each stem of silvery Salix (pussy willow), and the lush, pillow-bloomed ‘Orange Princess’ double tulips provide the joyful release.
As the piece evolves, we’re thinking about contrast and conversation—the sculptural, woven dynamic lines of the Salix playing against the fullness of the tulips, with each one given space to shine and room to grow. And grow they will!
For us, this is what spring design is all about: effortless, intentional, and letting simplicity feel luxurious—all with a punch of color standing in contrast to the fading dreary weather.
Less is more this time of year as we observe and admire the succession of spring blooms and renewal. Stay tuned; there’s much to come as the days grow longer and warmer.
