Recapping an Evening of Dinner, Design, and Community
This July, friends gathered in our courtyard for an intimate dinner party inspired by the beauty of a classic Michigan summer. More than simply sharing a meal, guests were invited into an immersive evening where they collaborated alongside the fleurdetroit design team to create a beautifully layered outdoor tablescape while exploring the art of entertaining.
Under the design direction of Laura Daluga, AIFD, and Colin Whitfield, the evening began with a behind-the-scenes look at the thoughtful details that go into designing a memorable table. Together, they explored the importance of scale, balance, layering, and creating an atmosphere that encourages guests to connect, and enjoy the experience of gathering.

Using a thoughtfully curated collection of vintage china, contemporary serving pieces, rental linens, chargers, glassware, candlelight, and seasonal florals, guests became part of the creative process. They folded napkins, arranged bud vases, layered place settings, and styled decorative elements, watching the tablescape come to life one detail at a time. Working together as an event design team, they created the very setting where they would later gather for dinner.
Once the table was complete, Chef Toni Sova welcomed guests with rustic grilled bread served alongside her signature Nostimo olive oil. The first course featured an heirloom tomato and grilled peach salad with fresh figs, burrata, pine nuts, Greek extra virgin olive oil, vinegar, and fresh herbs—a vibrant celebration of the season.
The main course showcased a summer garden tomato pasta with stuffed zucchini blossoms, accompanied by chilled Greek grilled shrimp. To finish, guests enjoyed a lemon Nostimo olive oil cake topped with fresh Michigan berries and mascarpone cream.
As the evening unfolded, guests lingered over wine, conversation, and candlelight, surrounded by our lush summer garden. It was a celebration of thoughtful design, seasonal flavors, and the simple joy of gathering around a beautiful table.
