Welcome Dahlia Season

Southeast Michigan has some of the best locally grown flowers around, and Dahlias are no exception. The arrival of these happy blooms is a true marker of summertime in Michigan. Think Up North U-Pick flower farms and bees buzzing in the garden. Dahlias are naturally joyful flowers and are inspiring to design with.

Dahlia Characteristics

Dahlias are recognizable by their curled stacks of petals and their rounded, pom-pom ball-like shape. They are seasonal in our floral cooler in early August. Dahlias are a genus of 40 species of flowering plants in the aster family, native to Mexico and Central America. Their color choices have a wide range of options from vivid citrus hues to muted pastels.

Designing with Dahlias

Dahlias add a touch of refined elegance to any floral arrangement. Their large, full blooms make them an impressive focal point, and their color variety allows for great contrast and pairing. Dahlias are perfect for creating seasonal arrangements in summer and early fall. Their variety and versatility offer stunning floral arrangements to celebrate stylish interior decor. They can be used to create brilliant vibrant arrangements. Their resilience and long-lasting blooms also make them ideal.

Because dahlias have minimal foliage, they lend themselves to a contemporary aesthetic when styled alone. Additionally, when used as a focal flower, they create the perfect late summer garden staple. Dahlia sightings indicate peak summer and foreshadow the transition to fall.
