rom the earliest days of gathering feathers, rocks, and shells, my passion for collecting has evolved into an insatiable quest for the most exquisite examples of design from various periods. As an adult collector, I sought out notable collectors, people, and books to deepen my curiosity and knowledge.

The sun still shines bright, though abridged and hemmed in between the new dawn and the waning dusk hours. The fall tilt of the Earth in our northern climes ushers in the magic of the season, cueing summer to exit stage left and allowing the autumnal dancers to make their way across the canopies of the woods and suburban forests.

The late July garden on Three Mile embraces the breezy, slow-paced days of August. This is the month that celebrates the pollinators and the plants that support this squadron of determined nectar-sippers. The milkweed groves and ironweed towers host many partygoers in the morning hours—and even more revelers when the sun reaches its peak.

Summer is blazing, and we’re embracing bold, saturated colors in our design. A citrus-hued tablescape brings sunshine and joy to the table, highlighted by fresh, glistening seasonal fruits. It’s an effortless summertime stunner.

At our Michigan-based floral atelier, we’ve long believed that beauty lies in the details, and baskets are among our favorite finishing touches. Whether it’s a vintage wicker piece picked up at a flea market or a bold, modern woven one from British Colour Standard, baskets instantly lend charm and character to floral designs.

A Leo Month Reflection In the eighth month, the world takes a well-deserved siesta. At fleurdetroit, we too take the time to breathe in summer. In our younger days, Joe and I would rush through the year, trying to cram as much as possible into each working day, with little time to spare. These days, we choose to live more fully in the moment and cram less into our days. Let’s all celebrate August with some well-deserved relaxation and good times!

Here we are in July, marking 25 years into the new millennium, and I’m still pondering the rapid passage of time and the changes surrounding us. As many of you know, we’ve been deeply involved in the design world for years, and now we find ourselves reflecting on decades of experience. This realization brings a smile, but it also makes our heads spin!

From late May’s first lilac-scented mornings through October’s dahlia-rich sunsets, our floral studio’s design table tells the story of Michigan’s fields in real time.

In June, fleurdetroit’s first-ever Style Social event brought together lovers of design, florals, and interiors for an inspiring evening co-hosted by Michigan social media personalities Vanessa Chaverri-Gratz and Haneen Matt. Set against the lush garden backdrop of fleurdetroit, guests experienced a night filled with beauty, creativity, and community.

Until the late 19th century, Scandinavian ceramics remained largely unrecognized, overshadowed by the influences of neighboring European countries. During this time, local artisans struggled to establish a distinct identity, often producing copies of French and British models. However, the tide began to turn with the advent of the Great Universal Exhibitions.

Typically, the seasons help mark time for us in this industry, guiding our to-do lists as the year progresses. When I sat down to write this month’s email, I was gobsmacked to realize it’s already June—and the year that just began is already halfway over! Has summer started, or are we already decking the halls!? 2025 is proving to be a whirlwind—a time-warping season of its own.
